C., Monday, August 26, 1957 NUMBER .4 Hospital Building Fund Drive To Open Solicitation At Mills > Instructors Prepare For Training Courses Will Start Sept. 9 * Instructors for a series of depart mental management courses to open September 16 map plans for class work. The courses, covering several phases of departmental management, are sponsor ed by Fieldcrest Mills and the Voca tional Education Division of the North Carolina Department of Public In- j ^truction. 25- Year Picnic Company officials have announced that the annual picnic for members of the Fieldcrest 25-Year Club will be held at Morehead Stadium Saturday, September 14, at 3:30 p. m. Invitations will be mailed this week to all present members and to the large Sfoup of new members coming into the club this year. Tickets will be sent to : the members about a week in advance 1 of the date of the picnic. 1 Plans are in progress to make this f*uting the most enjoyable in the his- I tory of the club. Maclsaac, Who will teach “Basic Mechanics”; and J. E. Gardner, of the Fieldcrest Training Department. The instructor for the course in “Cotton Evaluation” is to be announced later. Set For Sept. 14 that the 1957 picnic will be the best attended of all such meeings of the 25-Year Club. Jim Eanes and his string band from Station WHEE in Martinsville, Va., and the Fieldcresters, the v/ell-known quar tet comprised of Fieldcrest employees, will provide musical entertainment. In addition, Gordon Siler, of Leaksville, will show his extensive collection of old guns, old money, newspapers and other articles of historical interest. Officers of the Company and other (Continued on page six) Fieldcrest men and women will have an important part in the campaign to raise $500,000 tOr ward the cost of a beautiful, new, air-conditioned, modern 75-bed hospital for the Tri-Cities. The $500,000 represents the community’s share of the $1,125,- 000 needed for a new hospital built and equipped to the approv ed specifications at the North Carolina Medical Care Commis sion and the U. S. Public Health Service under regulations of the Hill-Burton Act. Because Fieldcrest is the Tri-Cities’ largest employer, the community’s ability to raise $500,000 will be deter mined largely by the success of the campaign at the mills. Wholehearted support by Fieldcresters will be the (Continued on page seven) Results Of Fieldale Election Are Certified The National Labor Relations Board has certified the results of the repre sentation election at the Towel Mill June 5 when the Textile Workers Un ion of America was soundly defeated. Following the balloting, in which 636 employees voted against the TWUA and 547 voted for representation, the union filed objections to the conduct preceding the election. As it is required to do under federal law, the NLRB investigated the union’B charges. The labor board found that the Company had done nothing that affected the employees’ freedom of choice in voting for what they believed to be best for themselves. Following his report, the NLRB agent gave the union an additional week in which to find evidence to support its charges against the Company. Then last week the NLRB notified the Company that the union had withdrawn its charges and that the labor board had certified the results of the election.
